UDISE+ records every teacher working in a school. These records feed the national teacher statistics. In the 2024-25 data, India’s school teacher count passed 1 crore (1,01,22,420) for the first time, according to the Ministry of Education.
What schools record
- Basic details for each teacher working in the school.
- Qualifications and training.
- Appointment details and the classes or subjects taught.
The exact fields are defined in the year’s Data Capture Format (DCF) and the portal. Check them there rather than relying on lists on third-party sites.
Why it matters
Teacher data is used to calculate pupil-teacher ratios and to plan staffing. In 2024-25 the national pupil-teacher ratio was 10 at the foundational stage, 13 at the preparatory stage, 17 at the middle stage and 21 at the secondary stage.
Tips for schools
- Update teacher records when a teacher joins, transfers or retires, not only at the deadline.
- Make sure details match service records, because block and district offices verify submissions.
- If you cannot edit a record that was entered by another school or office, contact your block MIS coordinator.
